How Fast Can a Cabin Be Delivered in NZ?

Faster than most people expect.
Here's the honest timeline, from first conversation to the day you have a key.
Weeks 1–2:
We visit your property, confirm suitability, and work through the floor plan and spec. Most clients know what they want within a week. Some take two. Either is fine.
Weeks 3–6:
We prepare and lodge the application. Most councils process within 20 working days from lodgement. Some are faster, some slower. The council is, as always, doing its best.
Weeks 4–14:
This runs alongside the consent process, not after it. Our build schedule typically means 6–10 weeks of manufacture time. While the council is processing your paperwork, we're building your cabin.
Delivery and installation: 1–3 days
The cabin arrives on a truck. A crane places it on the prepared foundation. Services are connected. Installation day is straightforward for most sites more complex sites take a little longer.
So What's the Realistic Total?
For most clients: 10–16 weeks from sign-off to move-in. Call it 3–4 months.
That assumes a straightforward residential section, no resource consent required, and availability in our build schedule. We'll give you the actual timeframe at the quote stage not the fastest possible number.
What Can Slow Things Down?
Resource consent. If your cabin requires resource consent certain zone types or specific site conditions add 4–8 weeks.
Site preparation. Significant earthworks need to be sequenced correctly alongside the build. We'll flag this early if it applies to your site.
Council processing times. Some councils are consistently faster than others. We know which are which.
Service connections. Power and water connections requiring third-party work can occasionally add time at the tail end.
What If You Need It Urgently?
We've had calls on a Monday with in-laws arriving Friday. The cabin wasn't delivered by Friday that's not how this works but we have moved quickly for families in genuine need before.
If timing is critical, tell us at the first call. We'll be straight with you about what's actually possible.
How Does This Compare to Building On-Site?
Quality on-site construction in New Zealand typically runs 12–18 months from concept to completion, with weather delays, tradesperson availability, and supply chain issues all adding up along the way.
A Freedom Cabin at 3–4 months is a meaningfully different proposition. The build happens in a controlled workshop environment regardless of weather, and there's no period where progress stalls because a subcontractor is booked out for six weeks.
